How we got here

Coach Freeman started shot put and discus as an 8th grader, at Fox River Grove Middle School. He wasn’t the best, but it was fun!

As a freshman in high school, after being cut from the freshman baseball team, Coach Freeman tried out for the track and field team. But, it wasn’t until the end of his sophomore year at Cary-Grove High School, that he really fell in love with the sport. He set high goals to accomplish by the end of his senior year, achieving just about all of them. As a senior, he finished with:

  • Two school-records (181’3 & 66ft)

  • Two state championships (shot put and discus)

  • Ranked 3rd All-Time in Illinois State history for the boys shot put with a throw of 66ft

  • Became a 2012 USTFCCCA First-Team All-American

Coach Freeman went on to college where he became a 5-time USTFCCCA NCAA All-American in the Men’s shot put, an 8-time Conference Champion, as well as a Two-Time International Medalist while on the U-19 and U-23 Pan Am and NACAC US National Teams.

During and after college, Coach Freeman was able to learn from some of the best coaches in the country, and compete against some of the worlds best athletes. Now, he looks to take his experiences to help the next generation of Chicagoland throwers.

Since 2016, Coach Freeman has helped coach 3 NCAA All-Americans at his alma-mater, and 5 IHSA All-State Finishers (Top 8), as well as the 2023 IHSA Boys 3A Runner-Up in the discus, and 2024 IHSA Boys 3A State Champion.
